FREEDOM TO PROTEST PUBLIC MEETING
Public Meeting demands No to Police Harassment
of Demonstrations
The Right to Protest is NOT a Police Privilege
Following the 19th August demonstration against
the Lebanon demonstration, which came under severe harassment
and attack by Sussex Police, with intrusive videoing and filming
of children and protestors alike, a number of organisations are
coming together to hold a public meeting to demand No to Police
Harassment of Demonstrations and Protestors.
The Public Meeting, at 7.30 p.m. on Friday 10th
November at the Friends Meeting House, Ship Street will have a
number of speakers including Cllrs. Francis Tonks and Simon Williams
of the Green Party, Tony Greenstein of Palestine Solidarity/Alliance
for Green Socialism, Glenn Williams of Sussex Action for Peace,
Abu Bakr of the Save Omar Deghayes Campaign James Elsdon-Baker
from No2ID Campaign and a speaker from the Smash EDO campaign.
The primary theme of the meeting will be the
defence of democratic rights at a time when terrorism is being
used as the excuse to undermine the most basic and taken for granted
human rights. Internment, Control Orders, Habeus Corpus long standing
rights of freedom and liberty are being undermined in the war
against terror. The meeting is being held under Benjamin Franklins
watchword Those who trade liberty for security deserve neither.
Two hundred years later it is still appropriate.

EDO MBM Technologies Ltd are the sole
UK subsidiary of huge U.S arms conglomerate EDO Corp, which was
recently named No. 10 in the Forbes list of 100
fastest growing companies. They supply bomb release
mechanisms to the US and UK armed forces amongst
others. They supply crucial components for Raytheon's Paveway
guided bomb system, widely used in the "Shock and Awe"
campaign in Iraq.
Campaign against EDO MBM.
EDO MBM makes electrical weapons components for
the
Israeli military. EDO MBM manufactures components to be incorporated
into the Hellfire missile, which the Israeli army has recently
used to attack the civilian population of Gaza. They have organised
conferences on the development of UCAVs, unmanned aircraft which
are widely used in aerial attacks on Gaza. EDO Corporation, of
which EDO MBM Brighton is a wholly owned trading unit, has a direct
contract with the Israeli Navy who murdered 10 civilians on a
beach near Beit Lahiya, Gaza, earlier this month.
People involved in the anti-EDO campaign include,
but are not limited to: local residents, the Brighton Quakers,
peace activists, anti-capitalists, Palestine Solidarity groups,
human rights groups, trade unionists, academics and students.
The campaign started in August 2004 with a peace
camp. It's avowed aim is to expose EDO MBM and their
complicity in war crimes and to remove them from
Brighton.
